I got the lunch special of picadillo with moros rice and fried plantains. It was enough for 2 people to eat. Also super cheap like less than 7 bucks. Really fast service and friendly staff.

Awesome food! Huge portions! We got the ground beef picadillo and the Arroz con Pollo and both were great.

Went for the basic $4.25 breakfast - the eggs/choice of meat I found were really greasy and the cuban bread over-buttered but the pint of fresh pressed orange juice delicious and the .99c Cuban espresso nice and strong. I'd never had Cuban coffee though and was shocked at the amount of sugar it had in it when I had my first sip. The atmosphere was very upbeat - busy and fun and the waitresses were really sweet. From the other reviews the recommendations seem to be the traditional dishes like the black beans/rice and Cuban sandwich. If I returned I'd go for the lunch items such as those.

Good food, good amount. A little on the blander side, but good. Cafe con leche was delicious! Pork super tender. Tamale good. Tostones good. Great prices too!

A little taste of home. The Mamey batido was just what the homesickness ordered! Their croquetas de jamon were super tasty. I ordered the churrasco and it was thinner than expected but delicious. Their black beans rivaled my great friend Lourdes' black beans! My husband ordered the fried steak and he accidentally got the friend chicken. He liked it and did not even care they gave him the wrong thing. Their tamal was like the Panamanian bollo, which is like my favorite tamal in the world. It was inexpensive and very home cooked feel to all their food, nothing fancy but good. The arroz con leche and a cappuccino and the cubanito were a perfect ending. The background banter between the staff was hilarious and entertaining and it made me realize what my Husband has been trying to tell me all these years, that *we* hispanics are LOUD!

Fantastic breakfast special and I LOVE they serve breakfast until noon. Excellent cafe con leche

Favorite Cuban in SWFL! Best black beans and rice, TRY THEPICADILLO!, Empanadas and Cuban sand which light mayo!

Great breakfast deal! Eggs, bacon, Cuban bread, and sweet plantains were all fabulous! The cafe con leche was very tasty as well. I didn't care for the other menu items that my family tried. Shrimp creole and some type of foreign boiled potato were not good at all. Great breakfast spot that opens up around 7-7:30am where you can eat a full mean for under $10.

I love the diner style layout and ambiance. The food we ordered was delicious. We ordered a "Roja Vieja" and a "Picadillo" dish - both were excellent and yummy; and we ordered a side of Moros. The portions are generous and the prices are great! I also loved the "Batido De Guanabana" (Guanabana Shake). If I am ever back in Fort Myers, I will stop here again.

Stumbled upon this place by luck today...... The Cuban sandwich is killer. Wished we lived closer as I suspect the rest of the menu is great.

We took friends here who were dying for a REAL Cuban sandwich- too bad they don't have one! Their Cuban is a lunch meat ham Panini. I had the Chicken Empanada's and could not eat them- they were FULL of chicken bones- absolutely horrid. My husband and our friend's wife had breakfast and said they were great, but how do you mess up pancakes and eggs? Guess they are alright for breakfast (and REALLY CHEAP), but I won't be back! Too many other really good Cuban restaurants around. I was also VERY disappointed in the Cubano Coffee- and I LOVE Cuban coffee and authentic food! I guess you get what you pay for!

Very pleased with the Cuban food and low prices. Yummy croquettes and sandwiches. I'm definitely a repeat visitor to El Mambo when in Cape Coral. Service is a little patchy but with the good food and prices, this is still a great place and I plan to return.

Around the corner is El Mambo II. I felt I was in Cuba. I had breakfast for $3.17 not including tip OBA OBA OBA...WOW WOOW. 3 large eggs fried( or scramble), 6-7 slices bacon (ham?) butter hot bread and a double espresso. WOW what a steal. It hot and good/ They had large glass display of bake goods also. All freshly made. A wonderful hole in wall. not so hectic as on Del Prado

Never fails, the food is always excellent, had the breaded steak, Moro, Maduro and finished off with a Cortadito. LOVE THIS PLACE....

This place is just ok. However, I've only been there once for breakfast, and I'm from Key West, so my standards for Cuban food are pretty high. With that said, I had the omelette sandwich. The bread could have been toasted longer, and the "omelette" was pretty bland. I've had these egg and cheese sandwiches back home and they're delicious. This one was just blah. We also ordered two papas rellenas to go, and they were pretty bland, too. No spices in the beef. More importantly, the service was terrible. Don't expect to see your waitress after you order. Someone else brings your food, and she doesn't bother to check in on you. We had to chase her down after waiting 30 minutes for the check. Overall, I was disappointed. If you want great Mexican food in Ft. Myers, check out Taqueria Jalepeno. Their food is delicious.

This is my first real Cuban restaurant that I've eaten at. We went there for breakfast. The prices, cheap, cheap, cheap. $15 for a family of four to eat there. I think the mistake I made was ordering the Breakfast special. It wasn't bad, there just wasn't much they could do with eggs and sausage. The side of Cuban bread was really good as was the cuban coffee. My wife got the Cuban sandwich and it was also delicious. I will give it another try, but next time I will order something different or perhaps go there for lunch to see if I can dive into some real Cuban food.

Good, inexpensive Cuban breakfast. I don't say "cheap", because that just sounds like it's not good, but it IS good. Ok, it's good and cheap! No nonsense food. Lots of locals. Lots of regulars. Still seated quickly. I'd definitely return.

This place is simply awesome. Preadillo and steaks and black beans and red beans and rice and maduros and expresso and...... are all soooooo very good. Staff is friendly and well mannered, I absolutely love this place.

The food is PHENOMENAL! Absolutely authentic! I come from a 100% Cuban family and lived in Miami all my life. If you're looking for a real Cuban meal and experience, this is the place. It's a small cafeteria type place and their menu ranges from appetizers, sandwiches, and a full blown meal with the rice and black beans, fried plantains, and all kinds of meat cooked in different styles. The staff was very friendly and timing was just right. I do realize that this is not a chain and therefore all the food is cooked when ordered so it may take a little longer than a meal at Longhorn or Applebee's. But I don't mind waiting for a freshly cooked meal made just as I order it. All the pastries are made in house from scratch and are absolutely delicious. All in all, this is definitely a great place to fulfill your Cuban fix.

We tried Mambos on Del Prado as new residents of Cape Coral on Jan 2. Our meat patties were cold in the middle, the french fries were barely warm, and the food was not good Cuban to begin with. The service was slow and the servers were occupied with their co-workers. Next, our bill was incorrect so we had to wait in the front to have it corrected. THEN due to all of the confusion, I left my billfold on the counter...which I was glad to get back the next day. I was NOT glad to find my PayPal account cleaned out of monies needed to pay our bills this month. We will NEVER patronize this place again. The charges were all to foreign entities non recognizable. Although it may be resolved, no integrity somewhere there, and no offer to resolve the cold food issue.

Was vacationing in Captiva Island and found El Mambo via Yelp. Although it was located a slow 50 min drive from our resort, they had the best ratings for Cuban food. Needless to say, the food did not disappoint! Very flavorful, simple, authentic and great portions. Prices were affordable. Service mediocre, but expected. Arrived for dinnertime on a weekday, so it was a fairly slow time in the restaurant. Perfect for us and parking was plentiful! The drive was well worth the toll fees going back. Would recommend to visitors and locals alike!

We were in this part of Cape Coral around breakfast time, so thanks exclusively to YELP we just had to try out this place. What a find! It's fantastic! The quality of the food is high, but let me mention the prices. We each ordered the Breakfast Special for $2.99. It included 3 eggs, Cuban bread toasted, a large helping of bacon, sausage or ham AND cafe con leche. Amazing, really. We also ordered two empanadas at $1 each, a meat and a ham & cheese. The total bill for the two of us, including tax but not tip was a ridiculous $8.46. There was so much food, we took home part of the meal. I hate to dwell on price in a review, but in this case I thought it should be mentioned. The meal itself, by the way, was excellent. Food - 5 STARS Service - 4 STARS Location - 3 1/2 STARS Ambiance/Decor - 3 STARS

The food was not the best but ok overall. It was served within 5 minutes which makes me believe it was already done. Service was ok but I had to listen to the employees complain about the others during our time there. I will continue going and hope they get better as they grow. I will rewrite an updated review the next time I go. Recommend for breakfast and lunch.

  • Are Dee S.

Food is 3 stars but the low pricing and generous portions bring the total review up to 4. I go there for lunch when business brings me to the cape. Probably my favorite lunch location. The wait staff is a bit lackadaisical but the food is well worth it. Lunch for 2 for under $10. Ya can't go wrong.

  • Paul R.

I've eaten here probably 50+ times, and I can probably give you the most concise and accurate review you will get from anyone. Service is consistently very mediocre, but the food is consistently excellent, and the check is consistently small.

  • Anthony F.

Hope you like waiting. No one greets you. No one acknowledges you for anything. Good luck getting your order taken. Hope you're not in hurry. It takes about 15-20 mins for someone to take your order. After you seat yourself and you get your own menus. I would not recommend this place to anyone I like.

  • Josh R.

The staff barely speaks English and is VERY rude. The first time I brushed it off as a coincidence. After the second time I told myself id never go back. Examples include "excuse me ma'am. I ordered my food without onions. I'm allergic" she then gives me a dirty look and picks them out of the food in front of me!

  • Mick J.

You just cant beat this place for Breakfast Lunch or Dinner on a budget...the breakfast is 3 eggs, cuban bread, coffee, and like a pound of bacon for around $3.00...., Gotta have the Cuban Sandwich for Lunch for about $5.00, and if your looking for a dinner that will have you back again the next day...try the Vaca Fritas and the Ham and Cheese Empanadas.... YUMMY!

My family is from Cuba so I know my Cuban food. The ropa vieja and maduros are some of the best I've ever had. Very reasonable price and good portions. I'm only in town for business but will definitely miss this place.

Delicious food. Atmosphere is barebones, but it really doesn't matter. Prices are fantastic, and service was, while not overly abundant, perfectly fine. Again, you go here for the food-- and that's what doesn't disappoint.

  • Joann R.

I really wanted to love this restaurant. Yes, the appeal is a lot about the price but some of the dishes were great, some so-so. I didn't particularly notice anything filthy about the place as other reviewers have commented although I didn't scrutinize the blinds. Breakfast for me was eggs and two link sausages with Cuban bread and fresh oj - delicious. Friend had eggs, a bunch of bacon (a little hickory flavor I think), bread and Cuban coffee. She now declares she is hooked on Cuban coffee. Had a young gentleman serve us and he was attentive, there were no delays in service. We got empanadas - ham and cheese, chicken, and beef to have later for lunch. Total ticket before tip was in $11 range - yes, for all of it. Those empanadas - the chicken is seasoned perfectly although it did include a little piece of bone. Diners beware. But the flavor is outstanding so weed your way through. The ham and cheese was delish - simple, tasty, and oozing with queso blanco. The beef - I have to admit I was disappointed. Given that I've had Cuban picadillo before and it includes green olives/currants - this one was lacking. Only spices and beef - this brought the rating down for me. So before we left FL, decided to stop in one more time. Friend got the chicken empanadas. I hate to admit that I was surprised by the lack of presentation. A little sour cream drizzle and some chopped red/yellow/green bell pepper would really liven up the plate. On the other hand the waitress did offer a garlic dipping concoction. Friend enjoyed it, I did not (and I love garlic). The empanadas are only 1.25 - you'd be stuff if you ate two chicken ones, maybe you could handle 3 ham and cheese (smile). Bottom line - a great inexpensive meal but remember not to chow down hard on the chicken ones or you could get a bone in the roof of your mouth! Not a big deal, pick it out and set it aside. I had the Cuban pork roast. I make this myself. The meat was tender and in ample quantity (translate - I couldn't eat all of this!) But nothing special. I make mine using oj and a lot of onions; this one seemed not to have much flavor outside of few onions but it was cooked wonderfully tender. Two sides - I chose a salad (hey, greens - what can I say, but the tomatoes were deliciously sweet; no dressings were offered and I used the oil and vinegar on the table. The black beans were delicious and I used them and the liquid to pour over the pork. great flavor and really perked up the pork. All this for 5.99 We tried their tres leches. It was served a little differently than I've had before, in a plastic bowl and drenched in the sweetened milks. It was a little too much sweetened milk for me and the cake was swimming in it. Too much milk, not enough cake. Flavorful - yes. total bill at last visit was around $14-15. Service at this meal was a little different - in an almost empty restaurant, did not have a welcoming feel although the waitress did warm up before we left. I'd go again if in this area, to sample the Cuban sandwich but more than likely to pick up the chicken or ham and cheese empanadas and some black beans.

I know, I know your going to say "you gave pignoli's 2 stars and El Mambo 4 stars? But El Mambo is what it is, cheap and DEE-Licious food. It does not pretend to be something it's not, it is not fancy, or pretty or even really clean. Discovered this last year for breakfast and have gone back twice this year, once for a carry out coffee and gauva turnover and once for lunch with the fam. My husband got the lunch special Ropa Vieja (which I wish I would have ordered it was AWESOME) with black beans and rice, I split my daughter a cuban sandwich (they were HUGE), my daughter also ordered a chicken soup (her only complaint was bones in the chicken). 2 of us also ordered mango juice. Our lunch was very good and I would HIGHLY recommend the Roja Vieja.

Price is what keeps this place high in the ratings. Atmosphere was that of an old diner, which is fine with me. Service was very good and helpful. We were there for breakfast and the coffee was the highlight. Breakfast food was above average and portion size was huge. Don't go for a dining experience, but go for good cheap food.

We enjoyed a fun lunch at El Mambo. We ordered the sweet fried plantains, the Cuban sandwich and the flan. It was very reasonably priced!

I found this Cuban gem while vacationing in nearby Sanibel. I normally think any place with all their windows covered has some illegal gambling going on but that wasn't the case here. Upon entering you're greeted in Spanish by some friendly waitresses. I had the Chicken in Sauce (the Wednesday night special) which was so delicious and tender. It reminded me of Arroz con Pollo in Spain. The black beans and rice were par for the course. The fried plantains were sweet and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. We also tried the Palomilla steak which was tasty but a little hard to chew. End your meal with a flan and a Cuban coffee. You'll be happy with the check at the end. This place would be even better if they gave out some warm Cuban bread before the meal.

Service very good. Food amazing. First time for Cuban food, was very pleasantly surprised! Very welcoming. Doesn't look much from outside but the food was really good. Shredded beef, plantain, flan and three milk cake were superb.

Awesome place. $2.99 breakfast until 11am. 3 eggs, lots of deep fried bacon ham or sausage, toast and choice of any kind of coffee including Cuban or espresso. Food comes out fast and service is great.

El Mambo was a quick stop for breakfast on our way doing the touristy thing in the Keys...blew our socks off!! The café con leche (espresso coffee with warm milk) was amazing and the food delicious. We had the standard eggs, thick sliced but lean bacon and included tostada for dipping in the coffee. Wanting to try the empanadas, we got a chicken empanadas that could have served two. All this for $10. We didn't try but heard others inside talking about the milkshakes - mango, papaya, guava...wanted to come back to try them, but time ran out. Will be back!

Fantastic! Wouldn't typically order a turnover, but what a good call! Best I've ever had. Between my husband and I, we got a little bit of everything. Incredibly great! Service was fast and friendly. Normally I don't repeat restaurants on vacations, but we will definitely return! Amazing pork!

We found this place on yelp while visiting the grandparents and after a string of Little Cesars Pizza and McDonalds we were hurting for some good food. El Mambo hit the spot. My husband and I each got one of the lunch specials which were advertised at $7.99. I had the shredded beef and he had the roasted pork ribs. Both had great flavor and were very tender. For sides we had white rice, red beans, sweet plantains and a side salad. The rice was as to be expected, the salad was a choke on my part so skip that, the beans were good and the plantains were perfect a little crispy from frying. The service was just fine, we didn't realize we were supposed to pay up front until we had been sitting 10 minutes waiting for our check. When we went to pay our meals rang up for $5.99 which was unexpected but appreciated.

By far the tastiest bakery in Cape Coral area. The café con leche is perfect without sugar, the capuchinos are juicy and the tres leches is awesome, with homemade merengue!

  • Matthew W.

Not bad! Cuba! I ordered a turnover, it was like a Cuban hot pocket. Boy, was it good. I also had a shredded beef, not the best quality meat, although you can tell it was prepared well. The tamales were moist and had a more than normal corn taste to them. Very good. Good service, and Cuba is Good.

My husband and I went to El Mambo for breakfast yesterday and each had "The Special" which is now priced at $3.50. For $3.50 you get a cup of coffee (we both got cafe con leche), three eggs (fried or scrambled), sausage, bacon, or ham, and toast or Cuban bread. We both order eggs scrambled and I ordered mine well done. I ordered the bacon and received about eight large pieces of thick slices cooked crisp. My husband did not want the meat so the waitress offered to have tomatoes and onions added to the scrambled eggs. He agreed and thoroughly enjoyed his eggs. The Cuban bread was a rather large slice wrapped in paper. It had been toasted and buttered lightly and was simply delicious. The cafe con leche was amazing. The cups arrived with foamy milk on the top and just the right combination of milk and coffee. Neither of us added sugar to the coffee as it was just perfect already. The service is prompt and courteous and the restaurant, while not fancy, is clean. We will be going back to El Mambo for more breakfasts and also to try lunch and dinner.

We found this restaurant on yelp and went this morning for breakfast. The breakfast special was 3 eggs to order, a hefty serving of thick cut bacon or sausage, toast AND Coffee for $2.99 (amazing). We also tried a couple of the Cuban specialties as sides and they were delicious! The servers were also very nice and prompt. I would strongly recommend this restaurant!

We went to El Mambo on a friends suggestion, once we got there, it all went wrong. I ordered my favorite Cuban dish, Pechuga de pollo al la Milanesa. It was entirely too bland. There was no Ropa Vieja... Really? Really? Beyond that, their patatas rellenas were also bland. Their service could also use some training. I am no cuban connoisseur, but I know when the food is good, and if your looking for good cuban, stay away from this place. Maybe I went on a bad day, but that is my story.

Great food, great prices, great proportions. Everything at lunch tasted great. This would be at the top of our list but the service is pretty bad. From waiting for drink refills, to almost having to tackle the waitress to get our check we are very disappointed in what nearly is one of the best eats in Cape Coral. Still if you are patient the food is certainly worth the visit.

Outstanding Cuban menu, incredible daily specials. Being here on a Thursday, we had tender pork chunks in a tasty sauce with plantains and yuca in garlic sauce. Low-key atmosphere, nothing fancy, but a food lover's haven.

no, not a very good place if you want good service and a clean place...some food may be good but the overall isn't worth it....the owners even had cars towed from their lot on 4th of july...HAPPY 4TH! they aren't from here (usa) and said they didn't care what day it was..........BOYCOTT

Sunday and feeling lazy went to eat breakfast. I nice crowd had to wait a min for a opening but got one. Cheapest breakfast in town and you get a lot. All was fresh and good. Only thing I would say if the employes were a bit more organized I could give it 4 stars. They just need a dedicated bus boy to keep the tables cleaned off and a a dedicated person to seat you. Also didn't like to hunt down the waitress to get the bill. But it was a nice spot and I will eat here again.

We recently moved to the area and were looking for a good cuban breakfast place. This was the first place I saw on yelp so we decided to give it a try. I really want to be able to give this place 5 stars because the food was delicious and the prices are cheap! The only problems we had was the cleanliness of the dining room and the service. This place gets pretty busy and seems to have a lot of regular customers. The dining room needs some tlc. The table we sat at was next to a window with white blinds that were dirty and looked like something was splattered all over them which is not something you want to be looking at while eating a meal. Usually I think if the dining room isn't clean imagine what the kitchen must look like. The service could have been faster. Our waitress was friendly but definitely took a while coming to take our order and getting our food out. We may give this place another try in the future and hopefully have a better experience

I went to El Mambo looking for some Cuban breakfast, I should have known I wasn't going to find it here. The cafe con leche I ordered was made with american coffee instead of espresso. They should have just called it coffee con leche. The scrambled eggs were overcooked & I don't even know what that "bacon" was, certainly it wasn't bacon. My orange juice was even watered down. Anyone who says this place is good has obviously never had a decent cuban breakfast before. Save your money & don't try looking for Cuban food in Cape Coral, you won't find it. Instead, go to Kate's Kafe and have some amazing all-American homemade breakfast. You'll thank me later.

This place was very close to where I was staying over the weekend. And with as many positive reviews PLUS recommendation from the couple I was staying with, I was full of hope on Sunday morning (I was told it's best for breakfast). For once I wasn't disappointed! This is a no-nonsense local diner. I think the press it's getting everywhere (I have seen it listed in tourist publication) is attracting more non-locals like myself. We stopped in at 9ish for breakfast. The place was hopping, most looked locals with a few that looked a little lost like us. I figured it's a "seat yourself" kind of place, so we took the last empty table immediately along with 2 menus I grabbed myself. Service was quick and efficient. I ordered the much raved about Cafe con Leche. It's HOT and solid coffee. The 2 of us ordered the breakfast special. 3 eggs, bacon, Cuban toast & a giant glass of OJ came with a bargain price of $3.50! Is there even profit?? I also ordered 2 croquetas ($0.60 each) and 1 carne empanada ($1.25). Everything came to a super bargain of $8.95. SERIOUSLY, I wish I can bring this place home and I'll have breakfast everyday there. Now, food. Even though it's cheap, it's pretty solid. Eggs were scrambled the way I like it, which is not runny. Bacon is CRISPY. I swear it's like eating pork rinds, but that's how I like it (some people may be turned off by that). Empanada was a little greasy but that's fine by me. Croquetas were very tasty and fairly good size. I saw that they have lunch specials ($5.99). That day they had $8.99 oxtail. I was told their lunch and dinner aren't as great, but I really wish I had a chance to try it out for myself. This place is a keeper! Food 4 Service 4 Value 5+

Real Cuban food, real Cubans in the kitchen and at the tables. Try the chicken noodle soup (broth as golden as an Oscar trophy, and skinny noodles el magnifico). Then try the Cuban sandwich. Or just try anything on the damn menu; I pretty much guarantee you'll walk away: A) Smiling; B) With most of your money still in your wallet (or purse); C) A food baby sitting in your stomach. My Cuban (ham, white cheese, cuban mustard on a thin flat white Cuban hoagie pressed bun) was huge and as good as any I've eaten anywhere. Bowl of chicken noodle soup, plus a huge Cuban sandwich, plus a mango papaya shake= $10.00 plus a tip. Are you kidding me? If I lived in Coral Gables I'd have breakfasts and lunches here 2-3 times a week. Not much to look at from either inside or out, but NOT a greasy spoon! Just plain vanilla, and a great place to eat authentic Cuban food. These folks can cook.

We had heard a lot of good things about this restaurant so was excited about trying it out. I was disappointed - the restaurant is not very clean and the food was so-so. Our waiter spoke very broken English so it was difficult to communicate with him. He was very kind but didn't offer very good service. We will not be returning.

I came to visit my parents in Cape Coral FL and we got food from this place.. these people are the worst. the food is bad and extremely over priced. stingy with the portions and they never get the orders right. the employees are not hospitable at all. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The appearance is just as bad as the customer service it looks really dirty and disorganized. I am actually cuban and this is supposed to be a cuban restaurant, KEYWORDS: SUPPOSED TO BE.

Awesome place. $2.99 breakfast until 11am. 3 eggs, lots of deep fried bacon ham or sausage, toast and choice of any kind of coffee including Cuban or espresso. Food comes out fast and service is great.

Delicious food. Atmosphere is barebones, but it really doesn't matter. Prices are fantastic, and service was, while not overly abundant, perfectly fine. Again, you go here for the food-- and that's what doesn't disappoint.

Not bad!

YUMMY!

Hope you like waiting. No one greets you. No one acknowledges you for anything. Good luck getting your order taken. Hope you're not in hurry. It takes about 15-20 mins for someone to take your order. After you seat yourself and you get your own menus. I would not recommend this place to anyone I like.

I love the diner style layout and ambiance. The food we ordered was delicious. We ordered a "Roja Vieja" and a "Picadillo" dish - both were excellent and yummy; and we ordered a side of Moros. The portions are generous and the prices are great! I also loved the "Batido De Guanabana" (Guanabana Shake). If I am ever back in Fort Myers, I will stop here again.
